What Are The Best Universities In The UK?
As the best institution in the UK for 2021, the University of Oxford maintains its dominance. The prestigious institution is currently the fifth finest university in the world, down one spot from last year’s list, while their rival University of Cambridge holds onto the seventh spot.
The QS World University Rankings 2021 list 90 UK universities in total, six more than the previous year. These institutions include four that rank in the top 10 globally and another four that are in the top 50 globally.

1- The University of Warwick
The University of Warwick, which has maintained its 62nd-place global ranking for another year, is still in 10th place in the UK this year. Their success in the rankings is partly attributable to the university’s global perspective, which receives almost flawless scores in the ranking metrics for international professors and foreign students.
2- University of Bristol
The University of Bristol is ranked ninth in the UK, but this year’s results see it fall nine points to 58th globally. The university does well on all ranking categories, but particularly on the one for academic reputation, where it holds the 74th-place position globally.
3- London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE)
The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), which is now ranked ninth in the UK and 49th overall, is the first UK university in our top 10 to enter the top 50 universities in the world. LSE is the most diverse UK institution in our rating and is ranked eighth in the world for international students.
4- King’s College London (KCL)
King’s College London (KCL), which remains seventh in the UK this year but moves up two spots to joint-31st globally, is ranked seventh this year. KCL, one of four London-based universities in the top 10 universities in the UK, receives great ratings across the board, but especially in the area of academic reputation, where it is ranked among the top 50 institutions in the world.
5- The University of Manchester
This year, the University of Manchester is ranked sixth in the UK and joint-27th worldwide. Employers have a very favourable opinion of Manchester alumni; the university is ranked 21st globally for this criterion of employer reputation.
6- University of Edinburgh
The University of Edinburgh, the only Scottish institution in the top 10 universities in the UK, is ranked fifth in the country and is still the 20th best university in the world. It ranks 25th and 31st in the world, respectively, for academic reputation and employer reputation, two areas where it does especially well.
7- UCL (University College London)
UCL (University College London), which lost two spots this year to 10th in the global rankings, barely missed a slot among the top three universities in the UK. It ranks 13th globally and has the highest score in the indicator for academic reputation.
8- Imperial College London
Imperial College London, the top-ranked university in the city, wins the bronze medal in the UK. This year, it climbs one spot to eighth rank globally, and it now holds ninth place in terms of academic repute.
9- University of Cambridge
The University of Oxford and the University of Cambridge are competing for top place in the UK rankings, as usual. Cambridge is in second place once more and is ranked seventh worldwide. For academic reputation and employer reputation, Cambridge is the top-ranked university in the UK and comes in second globally.
10- University of Oxford
The University of Oxford once again wins the UK competition this year, dropping one spot to fifth in the overall rankings. Oxford is the top-ranked institution in the UK for faculty-student ratio (eighth position) and citations per professor, achieving high scores across all metrics (44th place).
